CRIME UPDATE

Sat 9 July 2011
Break In / Robbery. Saturday night we were out of town and at 03:30 Sunday morning our neighbour Selwyn phoned my cell phone. When I answered it was his wife informing me that someone has broken into the house. She said that they have alerted ADT because they have an armed response with them. We then left straight away and arrived back home at 06:00. Our lounge window was broken and our TV was gone.  Selwyn confirmed that there was a Black man that threw 2 bricks through the window and climbed inside running through the house to see what more he could take.

It was only one guy but we suspect the other was waiting on the other side of the wall in President Fouche which he was passing over the stolen goods to. There was again two wooden sticks that they use to lift up the electric fence left behind. The robber cut his hand quite badly and left a blood trail from my house all the way to where he got out. Ryan and the police followed this trail – he left over our wall onto Lima Street then he went over the palisade fencing at Beesvygie and over the wall of the new development, across Malibongwe into the bushes at the river.

They went into the bushes looking for an injured person and could see a suspicious guy across the river close to the highway off ramp, the guy then ran away when they saw the police. The police then went to where he was and found our tv under a tree.

I just don’t understand if the police know where he lives why they are not doing more to go and catch this thief! Because he will most certainly be back!!

Wed 22 June 2011
Attempted break in Wed 22 June, 02h30am. We had a man enter our premises last night around 2h30am. He came via and over our neighbour's wall*. Our daughter who occupies the flatlet on our double garage woke with the sound of her wooden door opening. She has a sturdy security gate at the outside of this door - the wooden door opens to the inside. (She has been told previously to take care to lock the inside door as well - obviously this time she neglected to do this). This predator was using a faint blue flashlight (the type found on the back of a lighter) and was poking around with a twig - which we cannot match to any vegetation on our stand. She startled him and slammed the inside door shut and immediately called us on our internal line. Due to the dark and her swift doorslamming she did not see anything that can serve as identification.

Most worrying/telling is the human excrement and urine that was left at the site where this animal scaled the wall to enter and leave our property. This according to Peter is a muti marking. He suggested we call in a sangoma. This is however not our way of defending ourselves.

First off knowledge/information shared about the other incidents in the last couple of weeks would be welcome. We call for the "victims" to meet and discuss the modus operandi in each case. Every detail is important. Has he emptied his bowels and bladder anywhere else? Or was it only at Lima 1 that he felt the pressing need to mutify his visit? Can we call on you to get the parties together.

This animal has been operating in our neighbourhood with impunity for quite some time now and NEEDS to be caught and dealt with without any delay. Please, as my daughter so correctly stated: SHE DOES NOT WANT TO BECOME A STATISTIC. The longer this predator is allowed freedom of movement/access to our properties the more daring his escapades will become. I do not want anybody in this neigbourhood terrorised and brutalised.

* Titus our neighbour in Lima 3 has undertaken to get the electric fence around his property operational as this neglect has allowed access to our stand. We will however also take steps to safeguard our shared wall with him.

The police arrived - Peter alerted them - and their conduct was heartening. Checking into trees and under bushes. It seems they really care and want this problem dealt with.

A most upset

Week 21 -24 June 2011
Robbery. The resident  that had a house robbery was 11 Lima. A point of correction, a laptop was stolen from the back room where one of the ladies (related to the landlord) stays. She had closed the door but not locking it while by the main house. When she was going back to her room she saw a man hiding behind one of the cars parked.

This man apparently ran and jumped over the durawall with the laptop thereby dropping the lady's handbag. No cars were broken into.i called the police after nicolette called me. The police arrived very fast, but the guy had already ran across malibongwe, this is according the tow truck guy who saw the man. I went to see the residents, found the police still taking the statements.

We're working out a plan together with the police to nail these animals and send them where they belong.

Thanks

Peter.

Car chase, shots fired, arrest, Lower Sharonlea. Many residents might have heard the gun shots at around 01:00 this morning. The good news is that it was NOT criminals trying to enter our area and shoot at our guards...

According to Peter,  a vehicle entered our area and was being chased by police all the way from Douglasdale. The suspect did obviously not realise our area was a single entry/exit area and got himself boxed in.  The vehicle was being chased by 8 police cars and was trying to get away by driving through the various roads. The guards realised what was taking place and barricaded the road with the yellow barricades.  The police fired shots at the vehicle hoping to get the driver to stop, sadly this did not happen.  Another shot was fired down in Beesvygie street which injured the suspect and brought the car to a stop when he mounted the pavement.  The suspect was then apprehended after he was assisted by paramedics.

A HUGE WELL DONE TO THE POLICE WHO WERE ABLE TO APPREHEND THIS OBVIOUS CRIMINAL AND TO B-STING FOR ASSITING THE POLICE. The police had mentioned they would not have caught the suspect had the guards not barricaded the road.

WELL DONE PETER AND YOUR TEAM.

Armed Robbery - Olivedale Shopping Centre.
As discussed telephonically last night there was a horrible situation that took place last night at the Olivedale Corner Shopping Centre.

About a week and a half ago a lady had spotted a suspicious male at the Pick n Pay at Oivedale Corner Shopping Centre. She had recognised him from other armed robberies that had been committed in the surrounding areas.  She spoke to my brother who was next to her and shared her concerns. He then spoke to the management of Pick n Pay who in turn contacted the police. The manager then spoke to the security guard outside the store and mentioned he had made contact with the police and a male nearby then blew a whistle. 9 males then proceeded to walk away from the Pick n Pay, climbed into 3 cars and disappeared.

Last night at 18:30, the Pick n Pay, The Corner Pharmacy and the Vinyard Bottle store were all hit at the same time, escaping with a large undisclosed amount of money from the 3 unsuspecting stores. I later contact Peter who confirmed he had arrived at the centre within minutes of the robbery. Peter confirmed that there had been 15 suspects and that no one was physically harmed.

I urge you to please circulate an email to our residents as at this time, many of us are at the centre with our children. We need to be aware and vigilant of our surroundings. These criminals are wising up. These men that hit these 3 stores last night were more than likely aware that police presence arrives at the centre between 19:00 & 19:30. There seems to be an increase in crime in our surrounding areas as there is an increase in crime in Sector 6. There have also been many shots been fired in the park in the last month which too is concerning.

Please be aware at all time of the incidents happening around you instead of waiting till you are the next statistic.

Foiled Robbery
Upper Sharonlea. Please be on the look-out for a grey VW Panel van.  Yesterday morning (22 May) at approx 11:30 am two males forced the gate open at 69 Ebbehout Street, Sharonlea and reversed their panel van into the property.  Luckily the dogs barked at them and a very vigilant neighbor saw from her window what was happening.  She phoned Diana and alerted her about what was happening.  Diana rushed to her lounge window and managed to scare the two of them away.  This happened in BROAD DAYLIGHT on a Sunday morning! Please let your fellow neighbors and residents know who are not on our mailing list to please be on the look out for them.  Marius was kind enough to arrange extra ADT patrols around our block for the next couple of days.

Break In
Lower Sharonlea on Wednesday morning 03:00. Someone entered our property (not sure where) and opened our sliding door with a screw driver. Our dog sleeps inside and got woken up and then startled the burglar who still got away with our laptop, hard drive and my handbag that was lying in the lounge. If it wasn’t for our dog that interrupted him, we would have been cleaned out. I alerted Peter who called the police and was there in no time, so a big thank you to BSting!

I do however have a concern, the police told us that it is the squatters living down at the river, so if they know where these people are hiding why don’t they go and remove them! He told me the residents of Sharonlea need to go and lay a complaint (not sure where?) because the council need to be involved.

We also found 3 sticks (one made of bamboo proving it comes from the river) which they use to hook keys and stuff through windows – so residents must close their windows.

Fri 8 April 2011

Attempted Break In. I live in a cul-de-sac in Teak Street and my wall faces onto Pres. Fouche drive.

On the 8th April, I had an intruder enter my property via my back wall at 1.15am. I was alerted by my new puppy and without switching on the house lights, I saw the intruder peeping around the corner. He then proceeded to cut the wire and enter the back section where my kitchen and unprotected area is, I came face to face with him just feet away from me on the other side of the kitchen window. I crept up to the panic and pressed for ADT.  They were told that I had an intruder who I had just seen and they took nearly 25 minutes to arrive. This “piece of hyena dung” left his mark against the wall and had crapped against the wall.

I installed outdoor passives at a cost of plenty, and for the next three weeks he continued to come on to my property, sometimes an hour later after ADT had gone, he came back to see if I had put the alarm back on.  After that he did not come again, but clearly he is living in the area and now visiting other properties that are not protected.

So I have also had a visit from the "crappy" intruder.

Tues 8 Mar 2011
An armed robbery took place at about 22h00 on Tues 8 Mar 2011 at Beesvygie Street.  The criminals were hiding in the long grass, waited for the guard to pass and go around the corner and then broke the fence and entered the home.  They held the family (husband, wife and 3 children) at gun point for about 20 minutes and helped themselves to TV’s, laptops, etc.

Tues 22 Feb 2011
I live just around the corner from the Sharonlea Primary School.  My neighbor phoned me at lunch time today to warn me about a suspicious vehicle.  My gardener is working two doors away from me and saw the whole episode.  A  white Opel bakkie registration number KBW327GP first stopped outside my house and the passenger walked back to my neighbor’s house. He didn’t realize that my neighbor saw him and he was looking at her house through the gate.  She saw him and called from behind her security gate to ask him what he wanted and he asked where the school was.  She shouted back that it’s around the corner. He then went to my entrance door and was standing there but my gardener was watching them and the driver saw that they were being watched and called his ‘buddy’ away from my door and they drove off.  I phoned the police car in our area and they couldn’t find them. My neighbor opposite me just confirmed that her domestic just told her that they stopped outside her gate too and when the police drove up the road they quickly drove away.

Please warn everybody especially the Sharonlea residents to be vigilant.  On Thursday night at about 6pm my neighbor saw the same ‘gang’ getting away from a house in Olive road after they were disturbed by the neighbor.

On Thursday night (3/02/11) at 22h58pm I recieved a call from the guard on patrol has spotted some four men walking towards the park from Jacaranda Estate heading to Malibongwe direction. Upon seeing the guards they quickly made a turn and went back towards the river and fired six shots on air to scare off the guard. Some residents heard the shots, I recieved some calls from 13 Chamfuti,13 Nebelele, 11 Beesvygie and many others. I called Douglasdale police who responded within 4 mins of my call. They searched for the suspects but they had already vanished. Please be advised to be more cautious and be very alert at all times, crime is within our doorstep.
